Sacred Heart Cathedral
Become a catechist
Catechists walk alongside those coming into the Church, sharing the faith they have received. If you feel drawn to this, we would love to talk with you.
Every catechist completes the diocesan safe environment training and keeps it current. It is a short course that protects the children and vulnerable adults in our care, and you upload your certificate once you finish.
Through Franciscan University's Catechetical Institute you work at your own pace through the foundational catechist track: Scripture, the ecclesial method, the spiritual life of the catechist, and the heart of the faith we hand on. You do not need to finish it before you begin; we form you as you serve.
Ready to take the next step?
Cody Stiner is the one to talk to about serving as a catechist at Sacred Heart. Write to him and we will help you discern whether this is where the Lord is calling you, and walk you through getting started.
